WARNING!! SOME FORM OF SPOILER UP AHEAD SO YOU BETTER BE PREPARED OR IT AIN’T GONNA BE MY PROBLEM!

There’s two things about CA:CW that I don’t like: (1) The Cap/Sharon kiss ~~that literally came out of fucking nowhere~~, and (2) the conclusion of Cap/Bucky/Tony fight.

Now, the first one is easy: There was no build-up, no ‘Oh you look lovely today milady’, no nothing and suddenly BOOM kiss. Like seriously. I mean sure they did about the same thing with AoU with Black Widow and Hulk but given the non-existent backstory whereby we the audience were asked to come to the conclusion that both Hulk - and Banner, because let’s face it they’re the same person - and Romanoff had practiced the lullaby thingy in length prior to the movie. And I (sort of?) get it.

But this one? Meh. There was nothing that even necessitate such kiss. Hiding from Hydra agents out to kill you? Sure, kiss so that they don’t look twice at you. They’re talking too much and you have this sort of like-hate relationship and you really want to know where it could lead to so you use the relatively omnipresent sexual tension as a reason to lean in and punch the other guy’s perfect teeth with your own set of perfectly fine teeth? Kudos for you sir!? “That was a little late?” The fuck??????

But enough about that thing, let’s talk about The Conclusion: Fight Between Winter Soldier, Captain America, and Iron Man.

When I first saw the movie, I didn’t react well the second I saw this part. I wanted to cry, but nothing came out. I wanted to gasp in shock, but I couldn’t breathe properly - I wasn’t feeling anything. I was numb. Even the follow up joke and the subsequent cameo by Mr. Stan Lee (and his joke, too) did not sit right with me. I took my time to process it - I watched it midnight of April 27, had about three days to think about it before I watched it again today, midnight of April 30. I came up empty.

But somehow, watching it for the second time today, I finally realize what was wrong with this scene: The lack of emotions.

The start of the movie was great, and within the first 15 minutes we get to see the Starks with a very young and very dashing ~~100% would fuck~~ Tony Stark. Maria, the mother, said towards the end of the projected image that they all knew what was coming and that this is the last time they be together. She said, ‘Say something.’ And Tony said what?

He fucking told his dad that he loves him.

Now, as cliche and normal as that may sound, it is not for Tony Stark. Fuck, he told us, many a times before in his own solo movies that they didn’t really have the greatest of relationship when he was young. We knew that already. And to know now that the only thing he regrets is not being able to say that he loves him? Fuck man, that’s deep shit right there. Sure, you might argue that maybe it wasn’t always like that, that maybe Tony!now is feeling this way towards Howard because of what his father gave him (the formula for the thingy in Iron Man 2) and whatever else, but still. For him to admit that to a hall full of students and who the fuck else? That means something.

Now, take that and fast forward towards the end when we finally came to understand what it was exactly that Zemo wanted from Bucky,Tony’s reaction felt…justified. Not right or wrong, justified. And throughout the whole fight, to have a person that he held close to himself fight him, defending that one man who killed his mother (and father) in cold blood, it was understandable that Tony would be heartbroken.

The question is…is he really heartbroken?

I mean, where is the tears running down his bloody cheek? Where is Tony screaming in rage over not getting something that he wanted? Where is Tony, being a human and not a mindless, heartless robot?

What I’m getting at here is, after rewatching the movie, I feel like that fight conclusion should’ve been different. Maybe Tony shouldn’t say anything else after Cap said that Bucky is his friend. Maybe we shouldn’t even get any HUD shots of Tony after that, just the blank and emotionless mask of Iron Man. Maybe, just maybe, when Cap ripped the mask off we should get an image of a teary eyed Tony Stark, scared that he’s going to be killed off by that one person that he trusted so much. A person who he worshiped all his childhood and (based from comics) well in his adult life.

Maybe I just want Tony Stark to actually cry - I know he could. And he did, in the comics. He shed some in the movies too.

RDJ is a great actor and throughout CA:CW, you can tell that. You can see him being emotional in the movie, sometimes without even saying a word. And for them to not show that side of him, to portray that side of Tony Stark - a crying mess after finding out that his parents were killed as a collateral damage and having to fight a person that he trusted with his life - was a mistake. It really is, a mistake.

So…Civil War. Oh boy, where do I even begin.

It’s a great movie, for a start. Awesome, awesome movie. Great fight scenes; great on-screen time for everyone new or old (although I have to admit that Clint is still a lil’ bit on the sideshow role, even in this one); great jokes; great themes - in short, great everything.

But I do regret watching it…

I regret watching it because I came in as a fanboy, hailing from the fandom. I may not write much or draw (anything), but I am apart of the fandom and coming in to watch this movie with all these ideas and headcanons and what-ifs destroyed me.

Minutes has passed and I still cannot processed the entire movie, not emotionally at least.

I came in, rooting for Tony Stark. Not because he’s RDJ or because he’s the guy with money and the fancy suit - no. I root for him because of what he’s been through and I know that he won’t be doing shit just for fun, not when it’s this big. And the movie did not disappoint: We were shown that there is a reason for Tony’s decision to side with the World’s governments in this one. But as the movie progresses and plots unfold I realize something: that everybody sees something - an event or a dialogue or even an object - in very different perspective. Everybody has their own version of truth: be it the actual truth or not.

I walked inside rooting for Tony Stark, sat and then thought that maybe Tony Stark was not the only one who is right - maybe Steve Rogers weren’t the only one wrong - and walked out of the movie feeling…nothing. There was a scene…I’m not going to spoil much, but there was a scene towards the end where you can literally see fear in Tony Stark’s eyes. Real fear - not fear because he is outgunned with two enraged, enhanced people coming in hot at him; not fear because his entire mansion was blown off and he had to choose between using his armor to save the day or save Pepper Potts; not fear because he had to deliver a freaking nuclear bomb into outer space through an inter-dimensional door with absolutely no idea of how he’s coming back to Earth.

But just fear - plain ole’ fear. Fear of Captain America.

It was at this exact moment that I felt my heart beat, once, twice and then I was no longer feeling anything. I could not form an idea of what I was feeling. I had not a single clue what it was that is going through my head.

Tony Stark, scared of Captain America. Wow, can you even imagine that. It was here that I realized that no one can be absolutely right or wrong, not with something this big. Everyone is right to a certain degree; the rest of them is not wrong, but merely the truth for those standing on the other side of the field.

The movie delivered what we all wanted, and then some. Disregarding the whole awkward kissing scene between Steve and Sharon Carter, the whole movie worked and it worked well. The familial bond was such a prominent theme throughout the entire movie and it relates to almost every single character in the movie. Friendship was one too, although I don’t really want to think about it because my heart aches every time I think about it during my drive back to my house.

I didn’t really like the ending - it felt rushed to me, and a little bit out of track. It worked, sure, but I feel like if they paced it out a little bit (and I know it will drag the movie a few minutes longer but) then the entire movie would be a total success - to me, at least. Oh, and also edit out the kissing scene - totally unnecessary and weird and came out of the left field from fucking Pluto. I don’t really like the fact that we didn’t see much coming from Clint, but that’s been going on for about three movies prior, so nothing changed much.

Captain America: Civil War. More like, Captain America: Civil Separation. I hated this movie, it played with my heart too much.
